Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Police then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis indicate the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; investigators are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the event," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were working "to solve the case" and have requested to the community for information.
An important official stated the incident left him speechless and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
